A marvel in CNC machining, borrowing technology and design from the Red groupset, the XX cassette utilises extra spacers between each cog to allow dirt to be pushed through maintaining consistent shifting performance. SRAM starts with a single block of steel and machines out 8 cogs this is what they call X-Dome, this machining process with intricate details is an extremely time consuming process. The largest cog is made from aluminium which is replaceable and the 9th cog is made from steel which is press fit into the 8cog cnc billet masterpiece.
Smooth and crisp shift performance comes from the X-Glide technology with special shift cutouts on the cogs, ideally the XX cassette is recommended to be used with either a SRAM 1090 or 1090R chain. Yes the XX cassette is expensive,t but he XX cassette is extremely durable due to being constructed from 4130 chromoly steel with a remarkable weight of 190g which makes this one of the lightest cassettes available with great durability to boot.
