You get RapidFire Plus which moves 4 gears on the upshift and 2 gears on the downshift (pushing the lever you get 2 down, pulling the lever you get 1 down) Handy if your trails have lots of rapid changes. Instant release means you get the shift on the push of the lever and you can drop gears with either a push or pull. Basically if you want the best performance for price, XT tops it.
